There are a few places you have to try, if you haven't yet. We are fortunate to live in the food and wine Mecca, so sometimes we miss the changes, upgrades and sleepers that go under the radar. A couple to consider are Goosecross, Elyse and Hill Family. All of which are great tasting opportunities.
So the renovated Goosecross Winery off State Lane is unbelievable the view. If you don't go to try the wines and check out the back deck you are missing a beautiful Yountville experience. Their facility completed a great renovation and it shows with the tasting room and winemaking crew. They have a great selection of wines from Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and more whites to ample reds. All the while taking in the breath-taking view.
Elyse has been one of my favorites for years. Its a house turned into a winery, but if you like bold wines, you must try Ray Coursen' concoctions. Petit Sirah, Zinfandel, Cabernet and many blends. You will be schooled in bold wines by getting a chance to try their wines. Mostly small production, so availability on some of the wines is very limited.
While in the town of Yountville, stop at the corner of Washington and Mulberry for Hill Family. Ryan Hill (son of Doug, long-time viticulturist) has turned this tasting room into a fun environment to taste and relax for a few, and you can travel on foot within the town limits. Their barrel blend is very popular, but this is one of the few merlot producers that I will drink.
Hope to see people heading to Yountville, the weather has been amazing (mostly). It was shorts and flip-flops everywhere yesterday.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
